How to Regain Your Footing When Your World Is Shaken

i woke up this morning to an email i wasn't expecting -- friends announcing their separation.
these friends, were not just friends, but mentors, teachers and role models.
the news rocked my world momentarily. i respect them both individually and also profoundly respected them as a couple.
it was like a hit in the gut
even though we hadn't been in touch much lately, i "kept up" with them on social media and through the grapevine of shared connections. needless to say it came as a sad shock to me to hear that their marriage is ending.
simultaneously, it also made me immensely grateful for my own solid, happy, healthy relationship with my adoring husband and the bond that has grown even deeper since becoming parents to our daughter.
this news reminded me, once again, of the impermanence of everything. that no matter how much something may seem like a "given", it is not. and that we shouldn't take anything for granted.
no matter where you are in your life -- happy, healthy, single, married, divorced, starting a biz, growing a business, frustrated, changing directions, struggling, flourishing -- it won't be like that forever. everything is changing and whether you're loving or not liking where you are in your life right now, one thing is for sure...it will inevitably change.
when something arrives in your life that shakes your world -- i encourage you to move through these steps i've outlined in this week's teaching to make the most of the lesson being presented to you.

have you ever experienced a world-shaking moment that jolts you back to reality & makes you take stock of your life?

be brave & share it below!

i want to serve everyone! do i really need a yoga niche?

recently i spoke at a yoga teacher training, and one of the students asked me a question that i've heard variations of time and again.
it went something like this...
"do i really need a yoga niche? couldn't i feel even more fulfilled teaching various students groups, like college students one day and middle aged women the next?"
and this was my response...
"when you first start teaching, i highly recommend that you do teach various groups to see what style of teaching and what kind of student really lights you up as a teacher. but, as time passes, i'm guessing that you'll start to notice that you enjoy teaching this class more than that one, and working with this kind of student over that kind. and, when you start to notice your preferences as a teacher, you're getting closer to your 'home zone' or 'area of genius', and you'll feel MORE fulfilled and happier if you zero in on what you're being called to teach. that's where you'll really make a difference!"
but i get it, "zeroing" in on just one style and/or kind of student can be scary.
we start to think...
"won't i be limiting my potential income?" or "won't i be cutting myself off from potential students that could benefit from yoga?" or "won't it stifle my creativity as a teacher to just focus on one style/student/etc.?"
and my answer to those questions is a big fat NO!
in this week's video, i'm debunking 2 of the most common niching fears so that you can confidently set out to discover your unique area of genius!

how to deal when you're "not where you should be" in your life+biz

this past weekend, my husband and i (and our baby daughter) visited with friends at their gorgeous, fully remodeled home.
as we chatted and exchanged new parent stories, there was a little voice in the back of my head saying "omgosh -- this place is huge! and they have a brand new kitchen! what did they think when they visited our place mid-renovation a few months back?"
i was simultaneously happy for them and also a little jealous, coveting the "posh" lifestyle they seemed to be living, marble countertops and all.
to top it all off, the thing that has afforded them this fortune is an entrepreneurial venture gone very, very right. and somehow that was a little like salt in the wound. and the nagging voice in my head went on to question, "what am i doing wrong that i'm not 'killing' it in my biz?"
as human beings on planet earth, we're confronted with situations like this every day...
the yogi on the next mat who is gracefully holding a pose that you can't even fathom getting into.
the mom at the playground who is perfectly coiffed and effortlessly handling her polite children as yours run rampant.
the entrepreneur who seems to have it all figured out as you struggle to make ends meet.
but, the truth is, we NEVER know anyone's full story. even those we're closest to have countless things that they're dealing with that we're totally unaware of.
when we gaze in from the outside, everything looks perfectly in place -- rose colored. but if we dig a little deeper, we realize that everyone has "stuff" they're dealing with.
everyone has bad days, weeks or even months. and, if you look really closely, i'm guessing you wouldn't trade places with anyone, not even if they have new designer furniture in every room.
in this week's teaching, i'm sharing 4 strategies that'll help you deal with that uncomfortable restlessness that arises when you find yourself thinking "i'm not where i should be in my life+biz".
